Description
SYMPTOMS
Quad will rev, but no power to the back wheels
HOW TO TEST
You can rev the quad and look at the front sprocket (wheels on the ground) - look at the transmission gear and see if it spinning - then look to see if the sprocket gear is also spinning
If the sprocket gear is not spinning the same as the tranny gear then the front sprocket is slipping (You should have wheels on the ground and even applying brakes to add resistance)
We consider the slipper sprocket to be a consumable item (Replace 1 to 2 race seasons on stock quad - IF PROPERLY INSTALLED AND MAINTAINED)
REBUILD OR REPLACE?
You can replace discs and washer if sprocket assembly is still in good condition
INSPECT CENTER SPROCKET GEAR
The sprocket gear goes bad when the edges of the center hole start to flair out, this keeps the sprocket from maintaining proper torque readings
New Slipper Sprocket Install/Break In
1-Torque to 100-105' lbs
2- Perform 1-2 Holeshots
3- Re-torque to 100-105' lbs
4- Perform 1-2 holeshots
5- Repeat process until the torque wrench clicks immediately
6- Re-torque before each ride
** Too much torque will damage transmission
MAINTENANCE
SLIPPER DISCS:
- Examine discs for glazing & cracks
- If they show a glaze/slick look then rough them up with wire wheel or sand paper
- Rough up metal surfaces as well
- Replace discs often Buy Now
SPRING WASHER:
- Examine washer - it is a conicial washer and shouldn't be flat
- Replace often as needed
